Nicole DeSantis, DVM
Associate Veterinarian

Dr. DeSantis joined the AFAH team in August 2006. Since then, she has gained a reputation in the Ashburn community for her detail-oriented nature and special attention to client education.
A Pennsylvanian from the heart, Dr. DeSantis graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor, PA, and later earned her Bachelor of Science (Biology) from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. Dr. DeSantis obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She is currently a member of the DC Academy of Veterinary Medicine, the American Veterinary Medical Association and is USDA Accredited. She has additional training in ultrasonography from Sound Technologies. Remaining true to her desire to educate clients, she received the 2003 award for excellence in client communication from the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association.
All of her life Dr. DeSantis has had a connection with animals. She views her pets as family members and treats her clients pets as if they are her own. Dr. DeSantis has admitted, “Veterinary medicine is a compassionate career; as a veterinarian I have a duty to provide high quality care for my patients as well as educating my clients to be better pet caregivers.” Her special interests include animal behavior, feline medicine, and soft tissue surgery.
Currently, Dr. DeSantis shares her home with two dogs and two cats. Both of her dogs are rescues with long, difficult histories. Saggitarius, an 11-year-old Female English Pointer, and Ilsa, a 10-year-old Chow/Shepherd, are very lucky to have been found and cared for. The two Siamese kitties, Mickey and Josie are accustomed to the dogs, and like to talk all about it!
In her spare time, Dr. DeSantis enjoys a variety of activities with her husband and family. She is community oriented, working with many animal rescue groups including Siamese Rescue, Golden Retriever Rescue, and Doberman Rescue. Her two favorite pastimes are long walks with her dogs and reading.
We are very thankful that Dr. DeSantis joined our team! She never misses a detail! She is a true diagnostician, researching every angle until the case comes together. Interesting fact: Dr. DeSantis could probably win a handwriting award – her handwriting is unlike any doctors – so neat that it appears type written! Your pets are in capable and compassionate hands when they are treated by Dr. DeSantis!
