Dr. Melberger

Dr. Melberger joined the AMCL team in August 2008 at the Ashburn Farm location. He is a thorough and experienced veterinarian who enjoys helping animals and their people.

Dr. Melberger earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from University of Virginia in 1995 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in 1999. Directly out of vet school, Dr. Melberger completed an extensive year-long veterinary internship program at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. He has been working in clinic ever since. While working, Dr. Melberger received additional training from Virginia Tech in ultrasonography (2001) and endoscopy (2002). His special interests include soft tissue surgery and endocrinology. He is currently a member of the DC Academy of Veterinary Medicine, American Veterinary Medical Association and is USDA Accredited.

Dr. Melberger can’t remember a time when he didn’t want to help animals. Growing up with pets, he has always wanted to be a veterinarian. With years of hard work and education, Dr. Melberger’s dream was realized. He further helps animals in need by sharing his home with all rescued pets. He views all these animals as family members and can’t imagine a life without them.

In his spare time, Dr. Melberger enjoys a variety of activities. His ideal day includes a long walk with his wife and dogs, a successful home improvement project, followed by a Redskins game and a cook out. Dr. Melberger also enjoys traveling, reading, and hiking.

Dr. Melberger’s coworkers and clients describe him as a mild-mannered, thorough, kind-hearted doctor with a genuine compassion for his patients. He is excellent at establishing connections with his patients as well as their caregivers. When asked how he gets through a difficult day, Dr. Melberger replies “Truly loving what you do makes every stressful moment worth it!”
